About
Artist Rosa Häggbom (b. 1992, Stockholm) brings together spiritual symbolism, imaginative folklore aesthetics and theatrical figures in abstract dreamscapes. Her work mainly consists of oil paintings, textile crafts, sculpture and performance. Many of her paintings pushes the traditional form of a framed painting through asymmetrical raw outlines and textile frames, which contributes to the storytelling of the work. Theatrical and feminine/androgynous bodies and faces are often present in her imagery, as they play iconographic roles in her motifs.
Her work has a continuous spiritual and religiously seeking theme, mostly with inspiration from the medieval eastern Christian tradition, along with mythological creatures and other esoteric influences. Thoughts about life, death and rebirth are ever present. Through her works, she invites the viewer to an esoteric experience that imposes sacrality and evokes escapist fantasies about alternative realities.
